Go-Kart Derby - New event for 2008!
Have you been wondering what to do with the wheels
on your old pram or pushchair?
Well here's the answer.
Get together with your Mum and Dad to design and build a go kart
for the 1st Annual Hurst Horse Show Go Kart Derby.
Each Kart will need a driver and someone to push it around the course,
so nerves of steel and strong arms are required.
Prizes will be awarded for the winner, runner up and the best Kart.
Entry for this event - FREE!
Please complete the
entry form
and hand into the School Office
(ignore the £5 on the form - it really is FREE entry).
The event is currently scheduled to take place
on Saturday 28th June at 4.00pm
in the main arena.

The Winner
Congratulations to Steve Green who is
the winner of the 2008 Hurst Horse Show Photo Competition.
There were a number of superb entries, which made the judging very close,
but it was agreed that this fabulous picture of the falcon and children
did an excellent job of giving an impression of the Show.
Scarecrows and Scarespoons
Established in 2005, the Scarecrow Competition
is a regular favourite at the Show.
The competition features full-size scarecrows
and mini scarespoons - ideal for younger entrants.
You can take part in the Scarecrow Competition.
All you need to do is build a scarecrow which will be suitable
for one of the categories detailed below.
- Scarespoons – build a scarecrow on a wooden spoon, to be designed and made by children under 12
- Scarecrows – any size of scarecrow, built by families or individuals
Your entry does not need to be a traditional scarecrow as we know it,
you are free to let your imagination run wild.
Why not make a scarecrow of someone famous?
You can make a scarecrow from virtually anything.
Local traders could use scarecrows to effectively highlight
their particular business,
drawing on the theme of the business for creative inspiration.
The competition entrants will be judged on the show field
on Sun 29th June at 11:30a.m.
A designated area will be assigned for the display of the entries
and all entries must be in that area prior to the judging being started.
The winner of each category will receive a prize.
Entry forms
can be submitted either to
Erika Tipp C/O St. Nicholas Primary School, Hurst
in advance or at the show on the day.
Entries submitted in advance will cost £1 per entry form.
If you submit your entry on the day of the show then it will be £1.50p.
Guidelines for Entry
- Scarecrows and Scarespoons will be judged on strength, durability to the weather, imagination and character.
- All entry fees must be paid prior to the start of the judging.
- All scarecrows should be in the designated area at the show prior to judging commencing on Sun 29th June 11:30a.m.
2007 Winners
- Scarespoon: Tom Frost (age 8) with Dracuspoon
- Scarecrow: Jan, Richard, Tim and Rebecca Weller with Captain Jack and the Curse of the Black Bin Bags
Terrier Races
One of the highlights of the Show is the Terrier Race
which takes place each day after
the horse events
have finished, normally at around 4.30pm.
To enter your dog please register at the secretaries' tent
(situated between to two horse event arenas)
on the day.
Please register in good time and definitely before 4pm.
The entry fee is £1.50p.
All dogs are welcomed to join the event, not just terriers.
Depending on the number of entrants there will be a series of heats
and finals, possibly separated into terrier and non-terrier classes,
with a Grand Final.
The terrier race is sponsored by
Oscars Pet Foods.
